Programs and Events

Don't forget about Nature's classroom! Churchville Nature Center (CNC) in Churchville, Peace Valley Nature Center (PVNC) in Doylestown and Silver Lake Nature Center (SLNC) in Bristol also offer a variety of classes regarding nature and the environment as well as other special events and programs throughout the year. For complete information on registering for any of the nature centers' classes, their newsletters, activities and gift shops, please contact the centers directly. Below are a few of their exciting programs for all ages.

Programs and Special Events

Saturday Morning Bird Walks
Saturdays, March through September 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
Join an experienced bird watcher every Saturday morning for our early morning bird walks. These walks are a great way to meet new people and enjoy casual conversation with other bird enthusiasts. Your guide will pick out the best spot to visit within the area. Bring along binoculars and a bird identification book, if you have them.

Lenape Village Tours 
Every Sunday  - Through October
Take a tour of the Lenape Village with one of our educators and learn about some of the medicines and wild edibles that the Lenape used 500 years ago.  Each week there will be a different craft or skill featured.   
Pre-registration is required. 
Fee: $8.00/person; Under age 4 is free  
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Summer Nature camps
End of June to End of August
Each week in our 10 weeks of camp is a new topic for children ages 4 to 13 to learn more about the natural world around them.  Combined with games, stories and crafts will be nature related topics.  Themes include “Let’s Go Fishing”, Fungus among Us” Dinosaurs Camp” ” Adventure in the Sea”  “Let’s get Muddy” and many more. Check our website for more details.  
Space is limited and pre-registration is required.  Visit our website and go to the “publications” tab at the top of the page to get the summer camp brochure with a full listing of topics and fees. 

Firefly Campfire and Night Hike
June 30
Celebrate our golden anniversary by searching for golden glowing fireflies. We’ll start out by learning all there is to learn about these fascinating insects. Then we will try to capture them in the dark, we will release them for sure. We will even try to trick them into coming closer. You’ll find out how to do this that night. We will end up at the campfire circle where we will roast marshmallows and drink some cocoa.

Summer Nature Adventures
In groups of 5-12 (size of group depends on the age group), our professional educators will lead your child on adventures that will awaken their senses to the wonders of the world around us. Programs include:  

  • Preschool Programs (Ages 2-5 with caregiver). Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
  • Nature Adventures for Elementary Age Children (Completed grades K-6) Mon.-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  • Full Day Camp (Completed grades 4-6) Mon.-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Single Day Nature Discoveries for Young Naturalists (Completed grades K-2) 10:00 a.m-12:30 p.m. & 1 p.m.-3 p.m. 
  •  Single Day Nature Discoveries for Junior Naturalists (Complete grades 3-4) 10am-12:30pm & 1pm-3pm

Birthday Parties
2 hour party includes: 45-60 minute on-trail naturalist led (inside program and games if weather is inclement) $15.00 Sunflower Shop gift certificate for Birthday Child. Bug box or specified favor/craft per child. Use of room, tables and chairs. You supply paper goods and party fixings (Except for tea party) Ages 2-12. Up to 15 children. $60 refundable deposit for room cleanup. Prices vary by theme.

Flea Market Craft Fair in the Park 

Saturday September 16th
8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Annual Flea Market-We set up on the grounds around the Nature Center with generous 6-foot spaces in the shade and/sun. There will also be a few indoor spaces available. Bring your own table and chairs and remember that this popular event is rain or shine. No refunds.
Single Space: $15 member FOSL; $20 non-member
Double Space: $20 member FOSL; $25 non-member
Car Space: $30 member FOSL; $35 non-member
Indoor space, about 6', includes table: $30/mem. $35/non
Limited Food Vendor Space: $35-$50

Silver Lake Summer Camp
Summer Camp:  Ages 6-14
June 26 - August 25 FULL DAY
9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.*
Children will have the chance to investigate water, wood-land, marsh, bugs,  crayfish, frogs, and more through handsā€on activities, games, and natural crafts.
$200/week for members/ $35 Friends of Silver Lake Household Membership required.

Preschool Camp:  Ages 4-5
July 10th-14th and August 21st-25th  HALF DAY
9:00 a.m.-noon
$120/week for members; $35 Friends of Silver Lake Household Membership required.

Introduction to Kayaking
Saturdays June 10th, July 8th, August 5th, and September 9th from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and payment are due by 5pm two days prior. Space is limited so please register early. 

Fee per person per class. $25 Friend of Silver Lake Members; $30 non-members. Pre-registration is required. 

Volunteer Work Days Coming up on Saturdays 7/1, 8/5, 9/2
Monthly volunteer work days are held rain or shine and involve grounds work, pond maintenance, trail cleanups, litter and non-native species removal, as well as building maintenance. If you give us four hour, we'll give you lunch! Please remember to dress in clothes that you don't mind getting wet and/or dirty, wear appropriate footwear, and bring a refillable water bottle. Please contact the Nature Center to let us know if you will be helping out.
